Imported to Australia along with spare body from 101232. Engine (97078) from chassis 101232. Car is fitted with what we refer to as a light weight bodied SP, i.e. The body itself is not as thick as later bodies.
Look at the inner wings on your SP and you’ll see hollow panels/brackets behind which pass wires/cables adjacent to (above) the front suspension turrets. On later SP’s/bodies this is a substantial moulding in the inner wing and makes the front end more rigid. We have only come across a mere handful of these light weight bodies and in each case the SP is faster than a standard SP. We are not sure as to when or why these were made, might well have been to do with the SP’s success in racing in the ‘states with Duncan Black (of Black & Decker) as he did some testing for the factory and made a number of suggestions – but we can only guess
